News of World War II
Gerald Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dice Jones, Southwest of Bridgeport, has received an honorable discharge from the Army on account of his eyes, and has returned home.
Robert Seward, son of Don Seward, hasn’t been heard from for three months. He was in England when last heard from.
Another of the Lawrence County boys who is working on planes of various makes, will receive the Leader at the following address; Private Martin A. Carl, 478 Hq 4 Air Base Sqdn, Patterson Field, Fairfield, Ohio.
Charles Dolby, of north of Bridgeport, is sending the leader to another son in the service as follows: Pfc. Ralph J. Dolby, U. S. M. C. . c-o F.P. M., San Francisco, California.
PFC. Otto E. Shipley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Shipley, has been transferred from Fort Logan, Colorado, to the following address: 1st Replacement Wing, First A. F. Sq, C. Camp Mils, Long Island, New York
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Healy, of Sand Barrens, near St. Francisville, will attend the graduation exercises of their son, Edward Daniel, at the U of I on Sunday. Dan as he is more familiarly known majored in agriculture and horticulture and had four years of R.O. T. C. Following two weeks furlough at home, Dan will report to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for officers’ school resulting in a commission in the Army when he completes his course.
Forest Wayne Spidel, S 2 – c, of Great Lakes Training School, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Spidel, of St. Francisville, has finished boot training and his home on a 10 day furlough.
Mrs. Wanda Pepple has gone to Santa Anna California to visit her husband Walter Pepple, who is in the Air Corps. Relatives received word here she made the trip okay. Walter is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Oden Pepple of Petty Township.
Word has been received that Sgt. R. Boatman, US Army Air Corps, of Bridgeport, has been injured in Iceland. The extent of his injuries has not been learned.

Pvt. Harold Akers has been transferred from Greenville, Pennsylvania to 1st Plat. Co. D 4th Bn. P. T. G., E. A. C. Camp Edwards, Massachusetts.
Lieut. Donald Newell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Newell of Bridgeport, was operated on Monday evening at 5 o’clock in South Carolina for appendicitis. He is getting along nicely.
Private Roy Watts, former Bridgeport businessman, has been transferred from Camp Claiborne, Louisiana to New York ,New York.
Cpl. Maynard Hill has been moved from Camp Edwards, Massachusetts to the following location: 289th Signal Co. Fourth E. S. B., Camp Gordon Johnson, Florida
