Not everyone thought the Indy 500 was a good idea...

 The commander-in-chief of the Sons of Veterans says the selection of May 30 for the Indianapolis automobile race is a blot on the fair name of Indianapolis, a shameful disregard of state pride, and a national disgrace to take advantage of the general public and lead them to desecrate and debauch the most sacred of all holidays. He says the decision to hold the race meet on Memorial Day is based on the love of money alone.
