Pregnant...Again.

First this article appeared  in the Indianapolis News....

May 4, 1903 Mrs. Hillard Lawrence, wife of a farmer in Lawrence County, Illinois, 9 miles distance from the city, locked the doors on her four children, so that they could not follow her, and then threw herself into the swollen waters of the Embarras River, and was swept underneath the surface.

Then a local article explained the reason why this woman decided to end her life......

May 7, 1903 The people of Billet and vicinity were shocked Saturday morning over the sudden disappearance of Mrs. Millard Lawrence. She disappeared about 9 o’clock after considerable search, portions of her clothing were found on the riverbank at what is known as a Cassel Bend. The river was searched and around 2 o’clock the body was found about ¾’s of a mile from her residence. She was 40 years of age and has a family and children and expected the birth of another in the not too distant future.

(Ed. Note:  Having had 5 children myself...I can understand....)

Bad enough that she didn't merit having her own name mentioned but the papers couldn't even agree on her husband's name....
