Building a New Exhibit-- Number PLease?

Thanks to the help of a great design team, Ellen White and Nancy King, the newest Exhibit for the Lawrence County History Center is almost completed.  First of course, we had to take down the Pearl Fishing and Button exhibit.  This included Larry Curry and Dan Scherer moving the Suttle Switchboard ("it  weighs a ton!" to hear them tell the story) and the mussel bar with its many dangerous hooks (What! no hazardous pay for volunteers?)

Then we enlisted the help of John White to build some moving walls and new shelves as well as Steve Shearer to hang some of his vintage signs.

Kaye Fisher and Donna Burton completed the work by hunting up photographs, as well as researching and labeling the phones that were donated by Wm Hanson.  Photographs of some of the 50 wonderful vintage phones have been posted on this blog in the last couple of weeks.  Now the public can see them and really appreciate the History of the Telephone in Lawrence County this Saturday 9am-3pm at the History Center.

Monday February 27, Mr. Hanson will be presenting a program at 7 pm at the History Center.  Come early to get a good seat and while you are waiting, you can watch the newest documentary --Friday 13, 1913, The Bridgeport Fire.
