Bridgeport Leader December 3, 1942 World Famous Former Resident Dies in Fire
Charles Buck Jones a star of Western films for the past 20 years was killed in the coconut Grove nightclub Saturday fire. But claim to Vincennes as his home. After living in the city above for some time his parents moved to Allison Prairie in Lawrence County where Buck developed a keen interest in horses. This desire to work horses was responsible for his draft to the Ranches of the West and finally his entering the rodeo shows. It was a short jump from the rodeo to movies and stardom. Buck has become the idol of many a youngster and his films will be missed.
Ed. Note: Charles Frederick Gebhart was born December 12, 1891. No on-line source seems to mention that he grew up on Allison Prairie, including a quick review of the 1900 census but this obit was found in the Bridgeport Leader. He had more than 160 westerns to his name—first, silent movies and then, ‘talking pictures’. For the reader who is interested, you can find out more information on the internet.
