The purple hat above came from De Jongs of
Evansville. De Jongs was a well known Evansville clothing and apparel store that opened in 1896 at Third and Main. In 1920 the store advertised ready to wear hats with a parlor for trimmed millinery. It was still operating in 1940s, when we think this hat might have been purchased.
If any reader would like to help us date and identify these hats, the textile committee would certainly appreciate the help. They are also busy taking photos and doing an inventory of the rest of our collection of ladies -wear.
