Civil War Veteran Examinations 1887

The Robinson Constitution published the names of the Civil War soldiers who were examined or re-examined to determine if they were eligible for a pension ( usually $8.00 a month) or an increase in the amount previously awarded.  (For example if your pension was for piles ( hemorroids) and they got worse, so you could not work, your pension might be increaed to $10 a month.) You can request these pension records to see if your great- grandfather was injured in the war and received a pension....although if it was because of 'piles' you may not want to know this.
