Monuments and Downtown Support

As you may have heard, our website has been recognized by the Illinois State Historical Society. (WE won't know until April 25 what award it has received!) New things are constantly being added.  Please take some time each week or so to review it.  Check out the photo collection of monuments in our county.  Several of our fine photographers have contributed photos.

Our window decorating committee headed up by Esther Hesler has once again outdone themselves with the Easter/Spring window at Mike Neal's building on the West Side of the Square.  The Historical Society supports the Downtown Revitalization efforts by doing these displays to get people downtown and on the Square.  Last Saturday the Society also supported the Car Show by being open on Saturday afternoon and hosting some of the visitors from out of town (and local residents) who came to see the 70+ cars on exhibit.  As you can see, we are not just old people interested in history...well, we are that too......but we are striving to be a part of the County and the Downtown, and we sure would like it if you would join us.  Become a member!

The Lawrence County Historical Society will hold its monthly program meeting on Monday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the museum in Lawrenceville.  Featured speakers will be Jody Buchanan and Larry Whitmer, who will present a program on the military experiences of Private Jacob Adams at the Battle of Little Bighorn.
