Brooms in Lukin

The Sumner Press Feb 14, 1901

Aaron Schrader & Son shipped 35 dozen (420) brooms Thursday and J G Cunningham shipped 20 dozen (210) Tuesday to points in Indiana.  These brooms are manufactured in Lukin Township.  We are informed that this is only a beginning.  Several hundred dozen will move in the next few weeks.  Most of the straw for this enterprise is raised in Lukin.  However, some material has to be imported.  It seems that here is an opening for our farmer friends.  Why not Lawrence county raise the necessary material for these enterprising men, especially when the price per broom is higher than any other farm product?

The Lawrence County Historical Society will hold its monthly program meeting on Monday, April 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the museum in Lawrenceville.  Featured speakers will be Jody Buchanan and Larry Whitmer, who will present a program on the military experiences of Private Jacob Adams at the Battle of Little Bighorn.
