Saturday Review

All week we have been posting articles that J. King has located about the conflicts in Lawrence County between the Copperheads and the Unionists. We must remember that the actions of a very few can be greatly magnified in the press and in public opinion.  A dedicated group(s) of say 10 or 20 can terrorize a lot of good law-abiding folks. Our purpose is not to over emphasize the activities of the Copperheads in Lawrence county  but to add another layer to this period of history during this time. We will continue to add articles later in the month, including the first 'proof' that the underground railroad operated in the county.

The Board is working on the calendar for programs. If you have an idea or a speaker you would like to submit, please do so.  ( Now that the Chamber of Commerce  has officially moved out of the museum, we are 'moving the furniture' to make room for more chairs.  In the past our programs have been so well attended that some people have had to stand. Hopefully that problem can be solved because we WANT everyone to attend our programs.  They are free although occasionally we "pass the hat" to pay for the speaker's gas if they have traveled a long way to reach us. Remember the programs start at 7:00 on the 4th Monday night of each month.

The Board has a real treat in store for January 26...Kevin Borden will be presenting one of his 'famous' multi-media programs on the Borden Genealogy. After seeing a preview, and without giving away too much, this is not the way your grandmother would have done a program..... Try to imagine  Kevin Borden sitting down with  Ken Burns and Steven King and....Hugh Hefner.  You don't want to miss this one.
