Upcoming Events and Additional Information about the Denison Name

A couple of corrections and a bit more information from A. Denison concerning the stained glass window feature which was published this week:

The family has consistently spelled the family name as Denison since at least the late 1830s when the probate records for John Denison's grandfather, William Denison were filed. If a person views the John Denison memorial window in Pisgah Church you will note John's last name is spelled Denison.

Official military records dated May 3, 1864  indicate John died on 29 April 1864 at the Regimental hospital in Brownsville, Texas. However his commanding officer, Captain William W. Shepherd,  in a statement dated June 3, 1864 indicated John died on April 28, 1864.

A granddaughter of Mary Ida, Mary Lauren Gillespie, told the late Minnie Martin in May 1981 that Mary Ida and her husband, John J. Gould traveled to the Brownsville, Texas area sometime between 1915-1919 to search for Mary Ida's father's grave. Reportedly the cemetery had been moved, and the bodies transferred to other places unknown.
