Some Girl Scout History: March 7, 1974 An avid supporter of Girl Scouting, Mrs. Eliza A Glover was mostly responsible for the establishment of the Girl Scout program in Lawrenceville in 1931. She served on the first council and for the next 25 years she served in many capacities on the local, state and national level. She devoted a large amount of time to training sessions in which she learned better methods for conducting the local program. Her personal love for music and devotion to God gave Scouting in Lawrenceville an individual character.
The camping program was probably her greatest accomplishment. Under her leadership the camp at McCormick Creek Park was professionally run and offered a program of swimming, hiking, tennis, arts and crafts, theatricals, and music, all touched with a spiritual awareness.
Eliza A Glover, 76, died February 27, 1974 at the United Methodist Village. She was born in Lawrence County June 19, 1897 to Charles C. And Clara Gillespie Applegate and had resided in Lawrenceville most of her life.
