Bridgeport Police and Business News 1974

Business News: Jan 1974 Gilbert Junior and Rosella Mann  took over the operation of the Evans grocery on N. Main St., Bridgeport the first of the year and now operate it  as the J and R Market. Mrs  Mann has been employed in the store for the past four years. The market is open daily from 6 AM to 6 PM and from 8 AM to 12 PM noon on Sunday. Junior will continue his employment with Wolfe Motors but expects to assist in the market.

Bridgeport government: Jan 1974 Bridgeport Mayor William L. Potts has announced the acceptance of positions by men to serve on the Bridgeport Police Department effective February 1, 1974. Rex Lawson has accepted the post of Chief with the Robert Schofield being assigned night duty. Ralph Murray will be the auxiliary police serving holiday weekends and when needed.

Trivia: After several decades of deciding how to do it, in June, the first U.P.C. scanner was installed at a Marsh's supermarket in Troy, Ohio. The first product to have a bar code included was a packet of Wrigley's Gum.  Does anyone know when our grocery stores installed the first bar code scanner?
