Civil Defense 1960

Lawrence County News July 14, 1960
A total of 134 enthusiastic people attended the second meeting of the Civil Defense course of study, held in the Eagles Lodge, Monday evening. The next meeting will be on the evening of July 18 in the same place.

Civil defense is on the upswing in the United States and indications from the Monday meeting is that Lawrence County is keeping pace. The film Operation Ivy was shown Monday night. This is a good documentary film that gives the effects and estimated statistics about thermonuclear weapons and their destructive powers.

The next meeting will have as its lesson title: Effects of Nuclear Weapons, and Effects of Conventional, Chemical, and Biological weapons. This interesting meeting is open to all.
